Hob Part 2 (4 pages)

Last week we began posting the second part of HOB from d8 magazine. Naturally, webcomics don’t have to come in such “parts”. But parts they are, as parts they were born, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it now.

The human side of the story is introduced in Part 2, with Sandy Charles and her cuddily irritating sister Mona. Whenever we see sisters like this on TV series, like NHK’s Sakura, for instance, where a young irritating sister visits an older, responsibly employed sister for a surprise but unwelcome visit, we find ourselves quoting some of this dialogue. Memorize HOB, and see if it happens to you.

Comments on all four pages of Part 2 can go here, if you like.

The fifth page is now up; this completes the first episode.

Now, I know that more than mere bots are trawling this site. You are allowed to post comments.

Don’t make me come down there.

Actually, if anyone is having trouble commenting let us know at yamara ‘a t’ earthlink.net. We think we have it tested and functional, but we’re still fresh out of the egg on this WordPress stuff.

HOB Page 4

The story is beginning to take form by this page, at least a little.

The original episode ran in d8 magazine #3, and was five pages long. All the other episodes weigh in at four pages each.

Anyway, this entry is here in case anyone wants to comment on HOB while we organize the php of the site backstage.

As of this writing, the strip is still posted with a series of normal html pages. ‘Everest In Easy Stages,’ as Barbara likes to quote a book from Doctor Who.

‘Course, the Doctor never learned Tibetan, and so could never read that book. He just made up $#!+ as he went along…

We Could Call It Our Weblag

But that would be stupid.

Accompanying our comics relaunch, behold! Radio Free Wyhtl.

When we took up Vinny Salzillo‘s offer for webspace in 1996, (and later launched Yamara.com in 1997,) our hope was to create an ongoing Yamara comic presence, and a place to communicate with fans. We got about as far as four pages of Yamara and some early Shockwave quasi-animation at SciFi.com. But blogging hadn’t really been widely understood just yet, and while the creators of online strips like Goats and Sluggy Freelance seemed to have found the time to found webcomicdom in earnest, we had to consider many real life issues, especially since we stopped really being paid for this stuff.

Several jobs and a couple of published roleplaying games later, and we wake to find the world awash in these freaky things, these things, these expressions, reaching millions by their sheer interestingness alone. Free is the new Pay-Per-View. Even the Foglios are getting it.

Some of our favorites of the webcomic phenom are already linked here, but we know: this ain’t news, gran’pa. We’re just saying. You want an audience, take one. They’re free, too.

Just stay smart enough to earn your money somewhere else.
